Reimagined Utopia (Thesis 4)

Noelle Cha Reimagined Utopia Tulle, Chains, Polyester stuffing, Colored film, Wooden Frame, Fabric, Nails, Previously, this was a 3-d installation piece with flowing tulle and light catchers. It visualized a childhood memory, a time when everything felt free, energetic, and pure. When I think of my thesis idea of finding autonomy, I realize that the last time I truly felt autonomous was when I was a little kid—a time with no expectations or responsibilities. I could do anything I wanted. I now reimagine Utopia in 2-d, entrapped in this window frame. The frame is suspended by chains linked to previous pieces: The Entropy Mask and The Body as a vessel. Both these pieces represent present-day conflicts with identity and self-perception. I utilize the frame I built with all the tulle connected and contain it using a sheet of fabric.
